Handpan Lessons & Tuner App Learn on the Pan You Own

Hear the Ding, explore its surrounding notes, and find a short pattern to try on your own handpan.

Lessons that fit the notes your pan actually has.

Download on the App Store

The pan, lessons and health check work without an account. Tabs and recordings stay on your device unless you export or share them. Optional sign-in has separate data handling; see the app's privacy policy.

Save your handpan's notes and layout, then open lessons that fit it. Echo Circle is call and response on your own pan. Handpan tells you when a pattern needs a note your pan doesn't have, checks your notes against a 432 or 440 Hz reference with the on-device Pan Health Check, and lets you write your own number tabs.

Lessons that fit your pan

Save your notes and layout. Patterns that need a note your pan doesn't have are flagged before you begin.

Echo Circle: call and response on your own pan

Echo Circle plays a short groove on your own saved notes, then listens for your answer on your real handpan. Circles grow from 2 to 4 to 8 hits, and every hit shows its timing in milliseconds. If the app can’t hear you clearly it says “Not scored” instead of scoring, and an unheard answer never uses up one of your daily circles. Eight grooves and 3 circles a day are included.

Pan Health Check, 432 or 440 Hz

Strike the ding and each tone field once; clear notes are compared with your chosen reference. Quiet or uncertain input stays ungraded.

What's my pan?

Play a short sweep and Handpan suggests a likely scale from its catalog for you to confirm.

Number tabs and calm sessions

Write a tab, practise a groove against a silent count-in, or build a short calm session. Tabs and recordings stay on your device unless you share them.

Start with the pan you own.

  1. Save your notes.

Enter the notes your maker lists, or run the What's my pan? sweep and confirm a suggested scale.

  2. Check the reference.

Run the Pan Health Check at 432 or 440 Hz for a repeatable snapshot of how each note reads today.

  3. Play a lesson that fits.

Open a pattern your pan can play. Use a light, brief strike and leave room for each note to ring.

Free charts, guides & references

Read a beginner guide, check your pan with a phone, weigh 432 against 440 Hz, and compare six example scale maps. Match the notes and positions to your own instrument.

Questions

Is there an app that teaches handpan?

Yes. Handpan Lessons: Tabs & Tuner starts from your own pan: save its notes and layout, and lessons that need a missing note are flagged. Start free on iPhone; the app interface is in English.

Can my phone tell me if my handpan is in tune?

It can give you a practice reference. The Pan Health Check compares each clear note with 432 or 440 Hz and shows the offset in cents. Phone microphones have limits, so a reading is never an instruction to retune — that is a job for a qualified tuner.

Do I need a real handpan?

You can explore the on-screen pan and scale library without one. Touch on glass does not teach the rebound, pressure or sound of a strike on steel, so the lessons and checks are built for your real instrument.

Will the layout match my pan?

Save the notes your maker lists. Makers use different field positions and note counts; confirm the map against your own pan, or try the What's my pan? sweep.

Does it use the microphone?

Yes, for the Pan Health Check, What's my pan?, groove takes and Echo Circle. Audio is analysed on your device, the app never plays the guide while scoring, and input it cannot hear clearly earns no credit.

What is Echo Circle?

A call-and-response practice mode for your own pan. The app plays a short groove on the notes you saved, then listens for your answer on your real handpan. Circles grow from 2 to 4 to 8 hits, and every hit shows its timing in milliseconds. If the app can’t hear you clearly it says “Not scored” and does not score the attempt. Microphone analysis stays on your device.

What does Echo Circle include, and what does Pro add?

Eight grooves and 3 circles a day are included, and an answer the app could not hear never uses up one of your daily circles. Calm sits and practice plans are not cut off at five minutes, and there is one calm a day without Pro. Handpan Pro opens all 22 grooves, unlimited circles, a tempo ladder and your own patterns.

What does Pro add?

Handpan Pro adds all 22 grooves, unlimited Echo Circles, a tempo ladder and your own patterns, along with drift history across health checks, unlimited editable tabs and every calm soundscape. Your current health check and every scale stay free. Pay once with Handpan Pro Lifetime, which never renews, or choose a monthly or yearly plan; the app shows your local price, any trial eligibility and the terms before you buy.
