Echo Garden: echo a phrase, grow a flower
Echo Garden blooms a flower for every note the microphone hears clearly. The app plays two to five notes from a real song, then it is your turn to echo them on your kalimba. The microphone is off while a phrase plays. Phrases grow longer, so up to ten echoes teach the song’s opening. Unclear plucks, plucks between tines and out-of-tune tines are pointed out, never marked wrong. No kalimba yet? Play on screen in a clearly labelled touch mode.

Two practice modes, with the evidence kept separate
Wait for one clear pluck.
In Wait Mode, pluck one tine. The microphone listens for a stable fundamental; if noise or overtones make it uncertain, the app says it could not hear clearly and does not advance.
Practise rhythm by touch.
In Play Along, tap the on-screen tine. The result describes tine choice and timing, not microphone pitch accuracy.
Tune from stable evidence.

Which kalimbas are supported?
Choose an 8-, 10-, 15-, 17-, or 21-key board. Lesson fitting preserves melodic contour where possible and explicitly marks a piece unavailable when it cannot fit honestly.
Can I try it without a kalimba?
Yes. Tap the on-screen tines, preview the first melody, or practise timing in Play Along. Listening and tuning need a physical kalimba. Touch play and previews are kept separate from microphone-heard practice. Echo Garden has a clearly labelled touch mode too: its flowers are outlined and never count as microphone-heard playing or streak days.
What is the difference between Wait Mode and Play Along?
Wait Mode uses the microphone for one clear pluck at a time and abstains when the evidence is unclear. Play Along is a touch drill that scores tine choice and timing; it does not claim to microphone-grade pitch.
What is Echo Garden?
A call-and-response practice mode. The app plays two to five notes from a real song, then you echo them on your kalimba and each note the microphone hears clearly becomes a flower in your garden. Phrases grow longer, so up to ten echoes teach the opening of the song. The microphone is off while the app plays, and an unclear pluck, a pluck between tines or an out-of-tune tine is pointed out rather than marked wrong. On first run, choose “I have a kalimba” to tune and then play your first song with the microphone, or “No kalimba yet” for the same songs on screen.
What does Echo Garden include, and what does Pro add?
Starter songs are free, 10 echoes a day, and you can preview the first two phrases of any Pro song. Kalimba Pro opens every song that fits your board, with no daily echo limit. How do I tune my kalimba with the app?
Pluck one tine in a quiet room with its neighbours muted. The free tuner counts a tine only after five clean readings agree within 6 cents. Within ±5 cents it tells you to leave the tine alone; flat means one tiny tap on the playing end toward the bridge, sharp means one tiny tap from the upper end toward the tip. Pluck again after every tap. A reading more than 50 cents out stops you to check the note and octave first.
Why does my kalimba buzz?
Usually something small: a neighbouring tine or loose hardware, a tine sitting off-centre on the bridge, or grit under it. The free buzz guide goes least force first — isolate, nudge and centre, clear the bridge with a strip of paper — and stops before any twisting, which is a job for the maker or a technician.
